Reliable brand of a favorite smoke wood It used to be that outdoor grillers used mostly hickory. Then we started trying various woods for different flavors. Today we have a variety of smoke woods available, either from local stores, online or from your own tree trimmings. Today, in addition to traditional hickory, I use red oak, pecan, cherry and apple mostly–sometimes a mix of several woods.
