Wish I’d gotten one earlier! This is a big mat made of heavyweight vinyl. We have a place with carpeting about 26″ in front of a fireplace, and frankly that is barely enough distance to protect the carpeting. Purchased this not for under a grill or firepit, but for atop the carpet, and it has been a champ at both protecting the carpeting and resisting burning embers.
