The size of a 3/8 flare nut is 5/8 in order to accommodate for the flare seat.

Great for upgrading a anemic grill, but also consider lava rocks retrofit. I got this to upgrade a grill that just was not hot enough. For that purpose it works great. I have 2 positions I will use, one is the point before extra noise is heard. This is the normal position I use and is quite a bit hotter then the regulator that the grill cam with. Then sometimes I will use a 1/4 turn on this to boost it. Replaced the existing non-adjustable pressure regulator perfectly Attached easily and worked as expected. I did find that the red adjustment knob turns very easily and can be moved by even the slightest bump or brush against it. I would suggest taking a permanent marker and, once you find the swet spot – adjustment wise – mark the knob and the valve below so you can easily see at a glance if the know has been accidentally moved and the position it neeeds to be returned to for optimal pressure adjustment.
